Paws & Support

About the Program

Thanks to generous donors, Paws & Support is a free program for dogs, cats, and critters while their owners seek short-term in-hospital treatment or transition out of domestic violence relationships.

Pets live with trained temporary foster families and are reunited once their owner is in a healthy, safe space. Pet owners can feel confident their pet is well cared for while they focus on their own well-being.

Joining the Program

Pre-approved community partners may approach the Nova Scotia SPCA to support individuals seeking temporary shelter for their pet by emailing pawssupport@spcans.ca. If space is available community partners will be invited to complete an online form for their client which will help assess if the space is appropriate for their client.

Authorized partners include members of the Transition Housing Association of Nova Scotia.

Foster Families

Foster families are crucial to the success of our Paws for Support Program. You’ll be helping to give peace of mind to pet owners knowing that their best friend is in the best of hands. Plus, bonus cuddles! What’s not to love?

Fosters receive full support from the Nova Scotia SPCA during the pet’s stay but will be required to adhere to strict confidentiality.  All animal costs such as veterinary care, food, bedding, and toys are provided.
