Veterinary Services
The Nova Scotia SPCA operates three Animal Hospitals and Clinics in Dartmouth, Yarmouth and Sydney, Cape Breton.
Available to low-income individuals and families, our Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program helps pet owners keep their pets with them long term, reducing unwanted behaviours and an overall happier and healthier pet and owner, all while fighting against over-population.
Learn More & ApplyPalliative Care
While to many people the term ‘palliative care’ is associated with dying, our program is about living. Senior pets with manageable health conditions and a zest for life get to live out the rest of their days with a forever foster family filled with love, comfort, and happiness.
Learn MoreTNR Program
During Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR), feral cats are fixed and returned to their local colony. This reduces the cycle of unwanted breeding and the number of stray and abandoned animals that come into our shelter. Young kittens and friendly cats are also socialized and find loving families.
Learn MorePet Transport
When space and resources permit, we will bring pets into our province from shelters who struggle with high homeless pet overpopulation. This will help reduce overcrowding which is an important factor in ending the needless euthanasia of adoptable pets due to lack of resources.
Learn MoreP.U.P Program
Accidents happen! Most unplanned litters are born because pet owners don’t realize that ‘babies’ can have babies of their own.
The P.U.P Program, which stands for Prevent Unwanted Pregnancies, is here to help. Contact us to book an appointment and we will fix your female dog or cat for free AND fully vet and find loving homes for the puppies or kittens.
Learn MoreRehoming Your Pet
We understand how difficult it is to surrender a pet. The Nova Scotia SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health. We also follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space.
