Queens/Lunenburg- Animal Protection Inspector

Job Type: Full Time 

Salary: $22 – $28 per hour 

Benefits: Medical, Dental, RRSP Match, etc. 

Location: Queen/Lunenburg County, but does require regular travel to or may operate out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia SPCA is looking for motivated and dedicated Animal Protection Inspector. You will play an important role relating to public safety and animal welfare. You will monitor and respond to calls regarding animal care or neglect and animal by-law complaints. 

 

Required: 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Is an asset to have: 

  • Experience with animals
  • Knowledge of the Legal system
  • Knowledge of community bylaws
  • Experience working with First Nation and Rural Communities
  • Candidates with previous experience in working with First Nations are strongly encouraged to apply

 

We will Provide: 

  • Complete job-required courses related to the role, as well as other specialized training including Animal Protection

 

Knowledge and Qualifications/Skills required: 

  • Work with staff, volunteers, and the public in a positive, practical manner
  • Excellent computer skills, statement writing and preparing court documents
  • The ability to respond to client/public inquiries and complaints and handle sensitive and confidential information in a trusted and responsible manner
  • The ability to travel and work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends and be on-call
  • Medically and physically fit to work in all weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, etc) as this position may require bending, lifting and transporting animals in need
  • Will require a criminal record check ensuring your ability to attain an appointment from the Department of Justice.
